In the "Layers, Channels, and Paths" dialog, each layer has an "eye" 
icon in the right hand column when that layer is visible.  A click on 
the "eye" makes it disappear, and the associated layer becomes 
invisible.  A click were the "eye" was makes the it reappear, and the 
layer becomes visible once again.  You should be able to toggle "off/on" 
the visibility of any/all the layers you don't want to see by using this 
method, and thus isolate the layer you want.  At least, that is what it 
looks like - let us know if that does what you need.
