I know of mount problems with SMB and kernel <= 2.6.9:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2005/01/msg02820.html. You can see
if this applies to your situation. The fix is to upgrade to kernel >
2.6.9 or downgrade to kernel 2.4. You can try using CIFS instead of SMB
though that apparently has mixed results.
