I was teaching at CCCCD when they were trying to get an
"official" Red Hat program (rather than the Chris program).
Red Hat wanted to charge them over $30K/yr. just for
the priveledge. Given that Cisco pretty much does their
whole she-bang gratis, CCCCD said "No". Red Hat then
called me directly to try to work a deal. They got the
price down to (I think) around $15K (again, that's just
so you can say the words... "Red" and "Hat"), but still
CCCCD said "No"... we'll actually I think they said yes
for awhile, but it didn't generate the dollars expected.
Sun saw an opportunity and moved in with hardware (for cheap)
and training opps (again without the assinine charges) and
took up residence.
Of course, the real reason for the Linux decline is that "I"
wasn't teaching it :)
I was teaching a very successful Linux program at CCCCD
Cont. Ed. when they made the Sun deal and basically
kicked me out. I guess that was part of the deal.
I went over to CCCCD's credit side and started teaching
there (for probably 1/4th the money). That was successful
as well, but probably double the work load on me.
I had to give it up to save my family.
In general, school's are pretty messed up. They push
the good teacher's out (the ones that are truly motivated)
and accept the first bribe that comes along... and all
the while the adminstrators cash in. Weird.
