BTW, if you're doing RAID-0, 1 or 10 (0+1), then 3Ware is unbeatable.
You don't want a buffering microcontroller and Dynamic RAM (DRAM).
You want a storage switch ASIC with 0 wait state static RAM (SRAM)
SRAM is what you find in CPU cache logic, network switches, etc...

Grab a 3Ware Escalade 8506-4LP and you'll know what I mean.
The Linux support is absolute.
