You have already seen that Evolution is included in Debian.  I switched 
from Evolution to NetScape some time ago because it stopped co-operating 
with my ISP.  I don't remember how I converted mail.  If you are wanting 
to change email clients there's an ugly way to accomplish this.  In 
Evolution, disable your inbound mail checking.  Next, forward all your 
mail to yourself (I said it was ugly).  Rebuild on Debian, configure the 
email client of your choice and retrieve your email.
