Yes, I agree:
- Disk labels (aka partition tables)
- Install package list (dump of DPKGs, RPMs, etc...)
- Software settings (typically already using a centralized CM system)

Having a boot CD for each system helps in restoration.  There are
several projects out there, hit Freshmeat.NET.
