[NTLUG:Discuss] Humpty Dumpty Syndrome: split and cat on a 5 gig file

Ok. Sorry about the confusion. There are three computers:

1. The new one for person A (has SATA hard disk and no IDE interfaces)
2. The old one from person A that's going to person B which will have
the same setup as #3 (IDE hard disk)
3. A third one I used to image #2 (IDE hard disk)

The folders that were urgently needed I archived and have already
transferred to computer # 1. Computer # 1 is already set up, except
for one application called ACS.

I already did a "dd" from computer #3 to computer # 2 yesterday using
the Gentoo CD.

None of the above is the issue.

On the old one, #2, I used windows to create a backup of several
significant directories. There was a proprietary database program on
there so I backed up folders that were related to it that were not
urgently needed, all to one file using the back-up tool that comes
with Windows.

My issue is unrelated to "dd" or transferring the file. I already
executed the "dd" command, and I can take my router and cables to
transfer the 5 gig file to computer # 1 .

Would I do this now, I would never split the 5 gig file. Yes, it was
unnecessary. But as I said before, too late. I split the file and
deleted the big one. Now I need to put it back together. But I am
getting an error message that says, "file limit exceeded". Is a 5 gig
file too big to put back together? Are the limits to how big a file
can be? How can I put the file back together? Thanks.
