I wasn't looking to make a new protocol decision; I was looking for
pop3, period.

The two packages I listed, cyrus-imapd and dovecot, both contain 
multiple protocols (are those protocols or services?), including 
imap and pop3.  I only activated pop3.

By the way, I used a very complicated analysis to choose between 
cyrus-imapd and dovecot:

cyrus-imapd - Hyphenated and complicated-sounding.
dovecot - Sounds like peaceful, sleeping birds. :)

I installed dovecot and I'm happy with it so far.
