[NTLUG:Discuss] Gnome printing problems

Hi,

I've got a problem that I haven't been able to figure out for a while.
I've got a HP 4si printer with the postscript card and a JetDirect
network card.  My operating system is Debian unstable with CUPS for the
printing system.

The problem is that some programs print fine: Firefox/Thunderbird,
Openoffice.org, Acrobat Reader, Gimp
but other programs don't print at all: Abiword, Gnumeric, Gedit - the
printer light blinks for a couple of seconds and then quits with no
errors and nothing printed and no sheet fed.  No errors in
/var/log/cups/error_log either with logging set to "debug"
In particular, it seems that non-gnome-specific program print just fine
but gnome programs don't.  Anyone have any idea why this might be?
Tips?  Better place to ask?
