Hey, the guy slammed Mandrake for a brief mistake and then went
on to state he'd rather have a "well-tested" distro (implying Mdk was
not one). So, I seriously wanted him to say what distros (by name +
version) fit his qualifications as I consider Mandrake to be tested just
as well as most distros (and certainly better tested than many).

There have been several times where recent-version RedHat failed
to recognize various hardware. Installing Mandrake on that same
machine has all hw recognized and working. Painless. It just worked.
Again, I am not trying to champion Mdk. I deal with the "well-tested"
RedHat every day at work, on a dozen systems. Further, there seem
to be a lot of Fedora (bascally RedHat) problems discussed on NTLUG.
One could conclude it is problematic, perhaps. If there are other
distros that suit my needs better, then I'd give it a try (at least).
