North Lake College in Irving will again be offering LAMP courses,
this time during the first summer session (6/6 - 7/28). These are
8-week, 3 credit-hour courses with extensive hands-on opportunities
in a dedicated LAMP lab environment. The summer schedule will consist
of Linux Installation and Configuration (MW 5:45-9:25) and PHP
Programming (TR 5:45-9:25). Apache and MySQL will be offered in the
fall.
The LAMP courses currently offered will also be incorporated in
state's first Open Source Certificate program, to be offered
exclusively at North Lake College beginning Fall of 2005. This is a
program that has been made possible by a grant from the Texas Skills
Standards Board and will serve to elevate the status of open source
technology throughout the state. I hope to have a webpage outlining
what this will mean for Texas open source efforts as soon as time
permits.
