[NTLUG:Discuss] Goes to "grub>" not "RH 9.0"

It sounds like your BIOS change has altered the boot order and you are now
booting (MBR) from the SCSI or IDE vs. what it used to be. There's
something you aren't telling us or something changed - I can't see how a
tip-over would change the BIOS boot order - it must mean that the cabling
isn't back the way it was or something like that...

Still, whatever the BIOS ids as the first disk drive is where the boot block
is loaded from. That block is what then loads the grub program. Grub (the
program) can't find it's grub.conf file so you are getting the prompt.

I would:

(1) Go back into the bios and flip the option you set. Primary and
Secondary is probably (IDE then SCSI). So you want Secondary then Primary
if such is offered.

If that doesn't get you back, I would

(2) Rerun the grub install from the grub prompt. Help install will show you
the syntax. But you will have to fool with the root and kernel settings
first, which means discovering what is hd0 and 1 in the new world of grub.
Then based on the drives, you'll have to tell grub how to find the kernel.

Subject: [NTLUG:Discuss] Goes to "grub>" not "RH 9.0"

Hi all:

After I 'fix' the don't detect the SCSI hd problem (see my previous post
"No SCSI boot device found", if you get confused), and reboot the computer.

Instead of booting RH 9.0, it goes to "grub>" command mode right after scsi
hd detect and bios. What should I do from here?

Should I use the installation CD to fix the problem? or what options???

Please help,

Thanks.
