Maybe some of the many SuSE guru's here can give this one a shot?

Subject: [charlug] Suse Server 9 and Linux RAID
Date: Thu, 21 Apr 2005 14:53:27 -0400
I have two primary problems setting up a server using Suse Enterprise
Server 9. I'll give system background first:

IBM X Series server w/ Pent. 4 2.8 GHZ CPU, 1 GB SDRAM, 1 60 GB HDD,
2 120 GB SATA HDD.

Linux is installed on the 60 GB IDE drive. The two SATA drives are
set as RAID1 via the YAST partition tool.
When the RAID was first configured, I accessed the drive at
/mnt/raid. I then created 5 directories and some subdirectories.
At some point after rebooting ( that may have been a day or two later)
the /mnt/raid file was empty. I looked around and at root, I found a
folder called Data1. In that location I found all directories I thought
had been created at /mnt/raid.

I then went to Samba via YAST and set up the server. All seemed well.
I then accessed SWAT via Konquerer and added my users. I placed them
in a unique group and changed the ownership of the created directories
to this group. From a Windows XP machine I can see the Linux server,
but can't access the folders. I checked files permissions and all seems
well. After another restart of the Linux box, the created folders
have moved yet again, now to /home. That was Monday and things have
not changed since then. I'm assuming the created directories are
still actually residing on the RAID partioned and that the /home
directory is just the access point.

Sorry this rambles and seems a bit confusing, but any help answering
the question as to why the directories "moved around" would be great.
It does appear that they are stable now but I just want to be sure
they are on the RAID side of the house.

My real problem is that we are ready to create a few additional
subdirectories and begin to populate the directories with Autocad
files. I need to complete the sharing for the group.

Thanks for your help

Eddie
