Howdy.
As Jack says, the desktop switch just lets you manage areas of your
desktop. There is only one routing table. And Gnome keeps getting
better. 2.4 is a very nice improvement from 2.2. 2.6 was a minor
upgrade and 2.8 is a bigger step. I have a Mandrake 9.1 box and
whenever I use it, I notice how much smoother the newer versions are. I
do suggest adjusting Nautilus in 2.4 to not open cascading windows.
If you want to experiment with different virtual machines, with their
own routing tables, you need to use VMware or User Mode Linux.
