[NTLUG:Discuss] animated gif splitter for linux

I have a user that is created animated gif files. Some of them seem to
be 
less animated than others ( aren't animated at all )

I'd like to be able to split out the .gif images into separate ones so I
can 
debug this.... I'd like to see if 1) there are really multiple images
and 2) if 
the gif file is set up to loop and 3) if the images are different enough
to see
if it is animated. 

I'd like a linux tool to analize these if possible.
