I've found that the prism chipset is very well supported.  And I now use 
only Netgear & Cisco cards in my 802.11b network.

Beware of vendors that change the radio's chipset but keep the same model 
number on the product.  I have several cards
that are useless to me - they work only under windows.  But if you get 
stuck with this ... there is hope.  Linuxant has a wrapper
that you can load on linux - and use the original windows driver ...
