A work-around I have used is to put PuTTY and VNC Viewer on a keychain drive.  
Plug it into the USB port at work (Win2K) and I can ssh to my box at home, 
then tunnel VNC through that to get my at-home desktop.  From there I can do 
email.  One time I even sent a JPEG home, edited it in Gimp, and sent it back 
to myself.

Shut it all down, and pull out the keychain drive, and all is as it was (PuTTY 
and VNC Viewer do not require installation).  Works for me.
