That's what I wast thinking, too.  So, in the worst-case scenario, 
using a BT seed server is no worse than using an ftp/http server, 
right?  Or am I missing something?

Yup.  And I also subscribed to the Yahoo!Groups lists for BitTorrent:

   http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BitTorrent/
   http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BitTorrent_help/

So far, I've gotten a tracker running and a .torrent file made.  I now 
just need to figure out how to modify my apache settings, "join" the 
two together, and modify my NAT/FW to allow connections through.  Where 
I'm stuck is that I'm not clear on how the tracker knows where the ISO 
is.

That'll be tonight's project.
