The fact that the vendor has gone bust and support is no longer available,
plus the lack of source availability (or was there an escrow that is now
open?) should be prima facie evidence that you DO need an alternate vendor.

As a guess, the server side file has gotten corrupted - try deleting it
(save if off some where first) and recreating it.
