This has been my experience too... but I've had some folks tell me that
they've had problems with some of the newer Maxtor drives... I don't
know anymore... I'm sold out on SCSI at the moment.
Interestingly, the number one failure rate drive at the office is
Seagate (SCSI). Go figure. Though IBM is a close second... perhaps
even number one if you consider it with regards to the percentage
of IBM SCSI drives we have.
I have no idea how to pick a quality vendor anymore. For example,
I just ordered 4 Samsung 170MP monitors. I already own one of
the original 170MP that I bought over a year ago for about $1100.
But you know, the new ones aren't nearly as good as the one
I have even though two of the ones I bought are the 1701MP which
are supposed to have a higher contrast ratio (the 1701MP replaces
the 170MP... i.e. it's supposed to be better). Weird... but
I suppose not so unusual nowadays.
Where has quality (the desire to produce quality products) gone?
