One great thing about Linux is that what starts out as a lemon may end
up being perfectly usable.  It's prudent, of course, to check in
advance, but even if a particular piece of hardware starts out as a
lemon, it may end up being usable.  Right now I'm getting ready to use a
tv mpeg encoder (the avermedia m179) that a month ago was a brick, but
as of a few days ago is quite usable.

I'm sure everyone here knew this, but it seems a good idea to mention it
once more: in the Linux world, no piece of hardware is ever permanently
a lemon.
