Hrm - not been my experience... I am running a Dell Inspiron P4 2.8GHz
machine and it runs great, no unusual behavior at all.

I waffle on this... I have a dual P-III Xeon 1GHz machine that is faster
than all get-out. It seems to run about the same as my 2.8GHZ laptop.
Now, keep in mind the dual Xeon has 10K RPM U160 disks and a gig of memory
and the laptop is using a 5400RPM IDE drive. Disk subsystem makes a
*huge* difference.

I have used a couple of Dell 2.4GHz P4 desktops that really don't seem any
faster than my dual P-III Xeon box.

Of course some objective benchmarks would probably make me a liar.

Thomas
