Ed,
I ran a packet station for a few years in South Louisiana in the
1995 time frame (44.108.5.47 as KC5AYK). I really enjoyed it and
learned a bunch about tcp/ip in the process.
I used a wonderful book ("NOSintro") to get everything set up and
running properly, and kept it handy for constant reference. You can
see more about the book here:
http://www.ian.wade.care4free.net/nosintro.htm
I haven't cracked that book in at least 5 years, but I've packed it
and moved it twice, and it's across the room from me in the bookcase
in my home office; I've always felt that I would need it again.
When I read your message I was glad that I held on to it, and I'm
glad that I won't have to move it again. :)
I'd like to give the book to you if you'll have it. It is written
about the KA9Q NOS, but you'll wonder why it wasn't called "Linux".
They are virtually identical. I know the book will help you.
According to the FCC and Mapquest we live about 10 miles apart.
I'll be glad to deliver the book to you, or meet you somewhere else,
or if you prefer, I'll mail it to you. Email me privately and let me
know how you'd like to handle it.
Rick
