With regards to UPS's... I HIGHLY recommend APC's new (stealth)
XS series... esp. the 1000VA and 1500VA units. Smaller lighter
batteries than their older generation, with expansion capability to
add additional batteries and USB monitoring (no proprietary serial
cable anymore). Works great with NUT and KNUT client.

You won't find the XS on their website (well it wasn't there last
time I looked). However, they are all over the retail channels
stores (Best Buy, CompUSA, etc.). You can get a 1500VA for less
than $200. It powers my AMD dualie (with 8 10K rpm drives) going
full tilt for more than 45 minutes on battery.

My power strip has a surge supressor for the network... not sure
about my XS... wouldn't be surprised to see it though. It supposedly
has "2 RJ11 for surge suppression"... but that's looking at
the MicroCenter page at:
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0149973

(I'll have to look at mine at home to verify)
