[NTLUG:Discuss] Anyone here use Gentoo?

Normally, I have a box running gentoo. I still have it occupying
sectors of a hard drive but it's idle while I'm doing a project.

The performance issue is based on the optimization the gentoo team adds
to the kernel, libraries and applications. It's very fast and very
optimized. Even the stock kernel which is simply compiled off of
kernel.org runs faster. Gentoo has major security whistles and
continuous updats and patches similar to OpenBSD.

As a user with enough knowledge of Linux basics, you wouldn't miss the
RedHat package Manager. Unfortunately, a vast number of Linux users
haven't a clue about the skills needed to run Linux the way we did five
years ago. Gentoo appeals to people who have either been around a while
or who have a knack for Linux.
