F-Prot works well and is updated often.
www.f-prot.com
Free for home use, I think it's about $300 for corporate (server) use.
They also provide you with a shell script that you can make a cron job to
go out each night and get updates to the definitions.
The Linux version is command-line only; basically a port of the DOS
version.
I wouldn't suggest running it on / every night. What I do is run it on
seperate filesystems over different days. For example:
/usr on Monday night
/home on Tuesday night
/var and /tmp and /local (which is my /usr/local and /opt) on Wednesday
night
etc...
Keeps the scan times down and keeps from killing your load average for an
extended period.
