[NTLUG:Discuss] Group Password

I added myself to user and adm groups on my mandrake 9.0 and also added 
root to the user group.

Now whenever I open a console the system asks me for a password. I do 
know how to get rid of it - I can cntrl-c through it but I rather it not 
ask.

It probably is the group password but not being completely familiar with 
linux I would like to know how I can stop the system from asking me and 
will I be compromising security if I take out a group password (and how 
I can do that).
