The correct command in this case is 'unzip'.

    gzip/gunzip         -- .gz or .tgz
    bzip2/bunzip2       -- .bz2 or .tbz2
    zip/unzip           -- .zip
    compress/uncompress -- .Z

(I'm sure there are other compress/uncompress tools - but those
are by far the most common ones.)

I don't recall ever seeing a Linux box that didn't have unzip
pre-installed - and it's hard to imagine how you lost it...but
if it's not there, then you'll need to download a copy from somewhere.
