To answer my own question: In 7.2 LILO was replaced with "GRUB".
To boot into single user mode you must do the following during the several
seconds that the booter is counting down seconds to reboot (the GUI page):
1. Up arrow (or I think any arrow direction)
2. Arrow to the Linux OS and type 'e' (for edit)
3. Arrow to the kernel line and type 'e'
4. add linux 1 (or any other init level). I made sure I put a space before
the 'linux 1'
5. enter
6. b (for boot)
You'll go to the init level you specified.
