kudzu does some weird stuff with the /etc/fstab file.

That "weird stuff" is updfstab (see manpage). It's configurable. When
kudzu runs with the usb card attached it will configure it for you, but
then later, you will have to force kudzu to accept it when it's not
attached. I prefer autofs myself.
