Redhat decided to not ship any mp3 decoding software whatsoever in 
Redhat 8.0 (information), so you'll have a couple of options.


     * Download the mpg123 plugin here
       http://staff.xmms.org/priv/redhat8/

     * Download a replacement RPM for XMMS
       http://www.gurulabs.com/downloads.html
       http://psyche.freshrpms.net/rpm.html?id=106
       Users using freshrpms.net for apt-get can grab the package 	
       'xmms-mp3'

     * Compile and install XMMS from source.
       http://www.xmms.org/download.html

I initially brought up the fact that it was a perceived licensing 
problem with the codec, and Kelledin further explained.
