oops, sent my reply from the wrong account yet again...
The messages you've included seem to indicate that your modules do not
match the kernel you are running.
What else have you updated besides Netscape? I don't know of any reason
why installing Netscape would break kernel modules or would mess up
anything under /dev.
If your modules and kernel do not match enough for the modules to be depmod
or insmod'ed, then device files which interface to those modules (read,
"device drivers") won't be able to be opened. If you use devfs, the device
files won't even exist.
Do a uname -a and see what that gives you. Also, look at the dates on the
modules. They should've been built together and will have varying, but
close, timestamps. Compare that with the date on the kernel image you are
booting (say... /boot/vmlinuz or similar).
