Aha!!

Redhat 8.0 automatically enables dri and glx for the
810 chipset.. yank the Load entries for those out of
/etc/X11/XF86Config and see if your problems go
away.

AFAIK, agpgart/dri/glx for 810 has been broken since
Xfree86 4.2 :-(

I just had this problem on a box and removing those
modules fixed it... apm still doesn't work and the
hard drive light stays on ALL of the time (thanks
Redhat!).

I think Redhat 8.0 and SuSE 8.1 are competing for
worst distribution version (SuSE 8.0 was better IMHO
and SuSE 7.3 rocks!)... I used to think SuSE 8.1 was
bad... I can tell you that RH has a significant
lead in that race now.
