 However, the real issue here is political b*tt covering.  A million 
dollar server carries a lot of _visible_ support behind it, so when the 
project runs into trouble the management has someone to blame that is 
external to the company and can't be queried directly.

  With a MySQL server, only the management is to blame.  You can get MySQL 
support, so it is not as much of an issue today.  However, no one has been 
fired for using Oracle, no one has been fired for using Microsoft, no one 
has been fired for using IBM,...you get the picture.


  That said, MySQL is handling 30 million queries a month without a 
hiccup in our application.
