[NTLUG:Discuss] High Speed Internet "in the sticks"

Any recommendations for getting faster internet connections in Anna Texas
(about 12 miles north of McKinney)?

The phone companies are saying they don't offer DSL there yet, maybe in 2
years.
No cable modem.

Right now they are looking at Starband, but it requires a Windows PC to be
the network interface. (Plus a $59 software to route)

We are not sure we can route with Direct PC because they have custom
software for only Windows machines, and the modem hooks to the USB port.

Right now they have a network of 3 Macs, 5 Win PCs, and 2 Linux PCs sharing
a dial-up line to Prodigy. It is O.K. for email, but for browsing, or
downloading it is too slow.

Most of you folks are closer to the market than I am. What is available?
