Have you reconfigured the sound card? .. using sndconfig?
Does it get detected automatically or you have to explicitly set the
parameters of your card?
If the later case is true then I guess you should read the Yamaha Sound Card
manual and reconfigure the parameters as specified in the manuals. Even if
the parameters are adjusted little here and there other than their required
values, things go for a bust.
What make was the other sound card you installed?
I know I am asking a lot of questions, but answering them would help to
trace the problem quickly.
Harshal.

Subject: [NTLUG:Discuss] Sound Problems
I'm hoping someone here can help me out with this one. I've been looking
around
the internet for an answer and can find nothing....
I've got this really annoying lag with my sound device. I first found it
when I
pressed play on XMMS and heard sound a bit after the player started moving.
Pressing pause takes about a second for the sound to stop.
I've tried bother ARTSD and ESD sound daemons. Both do the same. Also, ARTS
gives me an error saying it can't start the real-time engine ARTSWRAPPER
because of an error.
Then I downloaded the Unreal Tournament 2003 demo. This works with it's own
sound engine, so I had to stop ARTSD. I get the same sound lag with that as
well.
I tried installing a new sound card and got the same results.
Ideas?
Machine Stats:
Distro: RedHat 7.3 (Running Up2Date. All patches are current)
Kernel: 2.4.18-10
Sound Card: Yamaha (Listed on the certified hardware for RedHat)
Processor: 1300 mhz AMD Athlon
RAM: 768Meg
/dev/dsp permissions: 777
Any help you can provide would ROCK! Any good website resources and/or
pointers
would be so cool.
Thanks!!
