the firewall I use for my lan and home is ipcop www.ipcop.com
it's a very nice gpl Linux based firewall with all kinds of
nice features.
also www.smoothwall.org (ipcop is based on smoothwall) just came out with
version 2
I have used both on some old hardware and have been very pleased.
and they're free and easy to install typically less than 30 min to install.
I run mine headless and keybordless and installed dansguardian
(http://dansguardian.org/)
for a porn filter here at work.
imho
