Hello,
Oh for the days of high speed access. I moved just about a year ago, and low and behold. no cable modem or DSL service available at my new house. This si
2001 isnt it. Anyway, I'm moving soon.
To your question, http://www.frazierwall.com/ , and there are other versions of the LRP "Linux Router Project". I used FrazierWall Linux for almost 3 years, without
a crash, and only one reboot when I changed my type of internet service. It allowed me to hook up my entire home network with both DSL and then Cable Modem
services, provided IP Masquarade, IP forwarding, and Extreme firewall protection. There are many other services and protocol available too.
Now this option will require hardware. I used an old 486 33mhz, with 16 MB of ram, 2 network cards and a floppy drive. No need for a hard drive, video card,
keyboard, mouse, or any other hardware past the setup phase. And the best thing is, if you write protect the floppy, and the FW Linux box is somehow
compromised, simply reboot the machine.
Hope this helps you, or someone, I know it helped me.
Gandalf
