I am trying to run the installer for the Ximian Desktop, and I get the following error:
bash-2.05a# lynx -source http://go-gnome.com/ | sh
==> Autodetecting system type...
==> Checking $DISPLAY and X permissions...
Error!
The Ximian Desktop Installer is a graphical application, and
either you have no DISPLAY variable set or the root user does not
have permission to access your X server. Run 'xhost +localhost'
before becoming root, and make sure that the DISPLAY variable is
set correctly before running the go-gnome script.
I ran the xhost +localhost as a user before su'ing to root, and no change. How do I check my DISPLAY and X permissions?
Thanks in advance for any help. I just switched from Redhat to Slackware, and I never had this problem in Red Hat,
so I am assuming that it is something to do with Slackware.
