[NTLUG:Discuss] office applications

I may be inviting a religious war, but that is not my intent.
I am looking for experiences and opinions, good, bad, and indifferent,
on "office applications" for Linux.

Easy of use and user understanding?
Compatibility issues with MS, Lotus, and/or other office applications?
Integration between components of the suite (if it is a suite)?
Anything that comes to mind?

I have had personal experience with StarOffice 5.1, 5.2, and 6.0 - of
which 5.2 seems to me to be their best so far.
I am reading about OpenOffice right now - a spin off of StarOffice, it
seems?

Personal opinion: Bells and whistles are nice, but fundamentals have
got to be sound.
Example: StarOffice 6.0 broke the copy/paste between other applications
and itself, and has some serious printer set up problems (at least on
Red Hat 7.2)

Thank you in advance for anything you feel you can share on the subject.
