Going back to memory lane, probably more than a year ago, you couldn't
edit your existing account. Laughably, if you had to make a change to
say your username or mail server (say you made a mistake on setup or
your mail server changes), you had to create a new account, send over
the mail, send over the prefs for that old account, etc.which made
Mozilla the only mailer that I knew of that would require you to do such
things. Took quite a while for them to change it because, I think, a few
things were dependent on the original info you entered.
Although it was real trying to use it back then for a variety of
reasons, I stuck with it to help with testing and what not. And it's
good enough now that I use it as my main mailer. Not as nice as say
Eudora, Evolution, etc., but I can use it on every platform in the
house (MacOS X, 9, Windows, Linux PPC and x86) which is nice.

http://spellchecker.mozdev.org/
may have what you're looking for. Installed it on my Windows Moz setup,
and it worked ok.
