RH 6.2EE. Sendmail-8.11.6-1.6.y, fetchmail-5.9.0-0.6.2. A few days
ago, for some unknown reason, I opened up linuxconf. (Every time I do
that, I swear, "never again," but I never seem to have much luck
following my own advice. I made some tweaks (Oh, if I could only
remember what they were), linuxconf belched and things got ugly. All is
back in shape now EXCEPT:

When I run fetchmail -v, I see the following:

  reading message 1 of 27 (1766 octets)
fetchmail: SMTP connect to localhost failed
fetchmail: can't raise the listener; falling back to
  /usr/bin/procmail-d %T#********************* flushed.

I check sendmail immediately and it appears to be running.

($ ps ax | grep sendmail
25910 ? S 0:00 sendmail: accepting connections)

Fetchmail then proceeds to suck the mail from the ISP, but all of the lines
end with carriage returns (^M). I just _hate_ it. What _have_ I
done? What _can_ I do?

As usual, ITYIA for suggestions, pointers, etc.
