  A way to do it is to delete the softlink  from directories rc0.d
through rcx.d.

  Another way to do it is to exit the init.d file, and put

exit 0

   at the top of the file.  Gives hackers a lot of problems

  If you are running Redhat, run the 

setup

  command.

  Debian has a program update-rc, or something like that.

  You can also do it with webmin.

  I belive there are probably 100 more ways to do it.
