I was anticipating this question :) I've built many of my own machines, and once
you factor in the value of your time, the cost between pre-fab and self-built
becomes very small (unless you use second-hand parts, which isn't an option here).
Also, in a commercial environment, it's usually more cost-effective to be able to
direct hardware warranty issues to one vendor, rather than having to keep track of
each component's vendor.
