If you are just wanting to make it so that others can't see directories
above their own homes and you are using wuftp - then don't bother with the
full chroot mess just do this:
edit /etc/ftpaccess to include the line:
restricted-uid *
I know it's not the full protection but I think it will fix what you want
for now - and it will take you about 2 seconds to do it
