Can't help you with front page other than tell you to stay away from it. It
is evil.

As far as MySQL, Apache and PHP install them in that order.
Install MySQL first and make sure that it works.

Then install Apache with the option ( at least ) --enable-module=so.
After that is installed, add a symbolic link so that apxs and apachectl
is in your path

Then install php 4.1.1 and make sure you have options
 --with-apxs and --with-mysql.

after that, do an apachectl restart and your all set.
