The only clients I've run into that do this are KMail (part of
kdenetwork), which has filtering, and Balsa, which doesn't unless you
compile it in. Balsa is designed for Gnome.
KDE's disadvantage for me was that it didn't support Maildir, a format I
prefer. Balsa speaks Maildir, but doesn't filter (but has a direct hook
for procmail, so you don't have to have your MTA call it; Balsa can call
it when you pop the mail in) natively yet, and the code is experimental.
I also had a number of crashes with Balsa that eventually drove me to
mutt. Most significantly, I couldn't send mail without putting it in the
outbound queue (like Eudora's send later setting), and then I had to exit
and restart Balsa before I could actually send. If I sent immediately,
Balsa segfaulted and the message was lost. If I queued and then sent
before I exited and restarted, Balsa segfaulted, didn't send, but didn't
lose the message. This was on the current version 1.2.3, and the bugzilla
report came back saying to upgrade to 1.2.3. There was also a message
display symptom in the message index associated with this issue.
Kmail wasn't especially reliable either, but it was more stable than Balsa
ever hoped to be.
