Sure - you can mount most (all?) Windoze partitions under Linux.

There must certainly be advantages. The whole permissions/ownership system
of vfat doesn't play well with Linux - it simply doesn't store all the details
that Linux needs.
You also have to regularly defrag windoze disk partitions - not easy under
Linux - that's not necessary for native Linux disk partitions.
