Thanks for the information, Dan. I feel envious; I didn't even get far
enough into the install to get the issues
you had :-) In reader's responses to web articles praising the board there
were also a number of
people who ran into a variety of issues (as well as some who did not). I
also saw a couple of notes on
the kernel developer's news group mentioning a patch needed for the Via
chip. Variability.
I have one more thing to try before throwing in the towel (although I've
been tempted to throw the
whole pc out the window); I called Frys tech dept, and a fellow there said
he recognized my described
problem, and said the fix should be to get better memory. I'll find out
whether that's bogus in a day or so.
But Christmas draws near, this is a gift pc for someone, and I'll certainly
take you up on your suggestion
to trade in if this last try doesn't get me there. Thanks also for the tip
on the Epox 8K7A+.
