[NTLUG:Discuss] MS XP Throw it in the trash!

Does anyone here remember how dominant IBM was before
their PS2 disaster? I think XP is microsoft's PS2.
They sure seem to be betting the bank on it. People
have been complacent in just 'not upgrading' for
years.. and win 9x is starting to show it's age. I'm
happy to say I haven't booted a windows machine here
since the first week of sept, and the only windows
machines that will ever come on again will be for
playing 'local' games. If I can't trust or count on
microsoft, I will search elsewhere.
Forget the quality of the code, what microsoft is
trying to do with XP.. go to the AOL marketing scheme
for your basic office apps, even for your desktop.. is
just so stupid that it will never work.** Its like
trying to suddenly lock a everyone out of their own
cars. Imagine having to get GM approval before you
could install an offbrand radio, or your 'license'
running out because you changed all four tires at
once. Exclusively owning the marketplace didn't work
for IBM, or Apple, or Novell, or Borland, and it won't
work for Microsoft. People spot the heavy backend from
a mile off, and don't even come in the show room.
2 years ago, Microsoft spent lots of $$$$$ putting up
'virtual office' that was really the beta of the .net
strategy. It was up about 3 months, then they spent
big $$$$ taking it down, because noone in their right
mind is going to save their personal docs on a pay by
the hour site. Notice that microsoft doesn't want to
own .net anymore. They are trying to strongarm others
into falling into that hole. The whole XP/.net thing
is a BIG failure, and they've known it wouldn't work
for quite some time. Their lack of support for ALL
older o.s.'s is a temporary management trick, as is
the 'time limited' upgrading. They are all just signs
that microsoft is in big trouble, because after years
of research, they've designed and released another
'BOB'.. not the worst code in the world, but certainly
one of the worst ideas.
** congressional action not included.
